As reductions in flight traffic mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration and caused by the record-setting government shutdown stretched into their fourth day Monday, flight cancellations and delays continued at major Bay Area airports.
Hobby was experiencing a roughly 39-minute delay as of 2 p.m. Monday, while Bush had an average 45-minute delay, according to the FAA.
Airports in Southern California on Monday saw more delays and more cancellations imposed by the U.S. Department of Transportation. An estimated 150 flights were cancelled in SoCal airports over the weekend and that number grew on Monday as 221 flights were delayed.
As of 8 a.m., 279 flights at O'Hare International Airport and 124 flights at Midway International Airport were canceled, according to FlightAware.
The FAA canceled over 7,000 flights since Friday – including more than 2,000 on Monday. It comes as Pres. Trump threatened to dock the pay for air traffic controllers calling in sick.
