Most people probably assume that members of the Royal Family spend Christmas in decadent surroundings, sitting on plush furniture, and eating expensive meals. However, one royal expert has suggested that some aspects of the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, where the royals traditionally spend the holiday season, are a little antiquated.

While making an appearance on Mail+'s Palace Confidential podcast, royal expert Rebecca English revealed that while Sandringham can “fit about 16 to 18” overnight guests, the accommodations are dated and feature what she called “fish finger beds”–”old-fashioned beds with the really creaky bed springs at the bottom.”

The royal family's dysfunction was revealed during the family's annual Christmas walk to and from church at Sandringham, the royal estate.

The Royal Family gathers at King Charles' Sandringham estate in Norfolk each Christmas, continuing a tradition dating back to Queen Victoria. The 20,000-acre estate, purchased in 1862, holds significant historical value for the family.

The Christmas service is a big event in the royal calendar, bringing together the Royal Family for a public appearance.
