Trump says US still actively pursuing oil tanker linked to Venezuela that fled from Coast Guard
The U.S. Coast Guard over the weekend was “in active pursuit of a sanctioned dark fleet vessel that is part of Venezuela’s illegal sanctions evasion,” an official told ABC News. “It is flying a false flag and under a judicial seizure order,” the official said at the time.
The US is pursuing a vessel in international waters near Venezuela on Sunday after attempting to intercept it, a US official said, as President Donald Trump’s administration tightens its crackdown on the country’s oil industry.
Just a day after the United States seized an oil tanker near Venezuela, another operation is underway. It would mark the third seizure in under two weeks.
Oil exports, the country’s financial lifeblood, have plummeted after the United States took action against three ships that have been used to carry its crude.
The pursuit of the tanker, off the coast of Venezuela, is the second such operation this weekend and the third in less than a week.
