THIS is with reference to the report ‘Ordinance gives CJP wide berth to shape benches’ (Sept 21). Frankly, I was startled by the use of ‘wide berth’ idiom in the headline.
While we’re at sea, let’s give that other ship a wide berth. To give a wide berth meant to put some space between ships, whether docked or at sea. Giving a wide berth means staying out of the way.
