A human head washed ashore on a Key Biscayne beach on Tuesday morning, authorities say. At about 8:40 a.m. the Miami Dade Police Department arrived at 251 Crandon Blvd after receiving reports of a human head on the beach. Police say detectives are on the scene and are working with the Medical Examiner’s Office to identify the person.

A human head was found on Tuesday morning after it washed ashore in Key Biscayne, Florida, according to multiple reports. Miami-Dade Police told NBC South Florida a person who was raking the beach made the discovery around 8:36 a.m. local time in Key Biscayne, which is about 7 miles southeast of Miami.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a human head that washed up on the shore of a small Florida village on Tuesday.
