Color us a little surprised that Windows 10, the operating system that Microsoft would like to see hundreds of millions users abandon, is still getting new features.

Microsoft has announced that the final day it will offer security support for Word, Excel, and Powerpoint on Windows 10 will be Oct. 14.

Windows 10 isn't the only Microsoft product that is due to lose support this coming October. In a blog post published Wednesday, the software giant said Microsoft 365 apps (aka Office) will no longer be supported in Windows 10 after Oct. 14, 2025. To continue using Microsoft 365 or Office, the company urges users to upgrade to Windows 11.

While Windows 10's end-of-support, which coincidentally will also revoke support for Microsoft 365 apps on older systems, will push users to Windows 11, it will do so begrudgingly. In its present state, at least regarding its image, Windows 11 will be an operating system most people tolerate but never fully embrace.
