UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres arrived in Russia on Wednesday to attend the BRICS summit, his first visit to the country for more than two years that has drawn scorn from Ukraine."The UN Secretary General declined Ukraine's invitation to the first Global Peace Summit in Switzerland.

On Tuesday, President Ramaphosa held a bilateral meeting with President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin Residence in Kazan.

The BRICS summit in Russia will be the "the largest foreign policy event ever held" by Russia, Kremlin foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov has said. The summit with include 36 countries with over 20 represented by heads of state. Russian President Vladimir Putin has positioned the BRICS summit as a counterweight to the West.
