Rami Malek has revealed he was once arrested for robbing a liquor store in Los Angeles – despite having nothing to do with the crime. The Bohemian Rhapsody Oscar winner, 43, who is of Egyptian heritage, was incorrectly profiled as fitting the description of a thief of Latin descent by officers operating in the area at the time.

During a recent interview, Rami Malek recalled an alleged encounter with LA police, in which the actor said he was racially profiled after a robbery.

Rami Malek revealed that he was once racially profiled by the Los Angeles Police Department. “I got thrown on the bonnet of an LAPD cop car because someone had robbed a liquor store and stolen a woman’s bag,” the Oscar winner, 43, recalled in a new interview with The Guardian.

Malek, who won an Oscar for his role in Bohemian Rhapsody as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, grew up in L.A. with his parents and twin brother Sami. Their Middle Eastern heritage was always apparent to the siblings.

The "Bohemian Rhapsody" star remembers thinking, "Okay, this is a very precarious situation. I may well be going to jail for something I’ve not done."
