The church earned basilica status after a five-year restoration project sharpened its beauty and made it earthquake-safe.
The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist is open Monday through Saturday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 4:30 p.m. On Sundays, the cathedral is open for visitors from 1 - 4:30 p.m.
You can tour the cathedral for 35 kuna (about $5.50) and the belfry for 20 kuna (approximately $3.15), between Monday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sundays from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.
