United Airlines Capt. Miles Morgan says a loss of communication with air traffic control is one of the first things pilots learn to handle.
“The FAA, the airlines, and all of the supporting people have worked diligently to make air travel safer, and it’s never been safer," he said. And that's part of the reason there are more delays and cancellations as air traffic control equipment falters.
Air travel was supposed to be just one part of Niraj Chokshi’s assignment at The Times. But then the pandemic started a wave of news that hasn’t really stopped.
The outage occurred on Monday and lasted about 90 seconds. The FAA said controllers were still able to communicate with pilots.
