The long WNBA offseason has officially begun, and there will be more activity than usual this winter. Not only because of the upcoming expansion draft to fill out the Golden State Valkyries roster, but also due to the unusual number of coaching changes.

The Indiana Fever hired Stephanie White on Friday, the first of seven head-coaching changes expected this offseason in the WNBA.

The coaching carousel started five days after the WNBA regular season ended, when the Los Angeles Sparks parted ways with coach Curt Miller on Sept. 24. Five more coaches were fired over the next 33 days. On Monday, the Connecticut Sun announced they were parting ways with White -- leaving seven head-coaching positions open.

The Sky ’s window to land Stephanie White was small. It’s a stretch to even call it a window. It was more of a crack. Still, general manager Jeff Pagliocca gave it his best shot. On Friday, that crack was sealed shut when the Fever made her hire official.

A day after theIndiana Fever named Stephanie White their head coach, a second opening was filled when theChicago Sky hired Las Vegas Aces assistant Tyler Marsh. Five WNBA head-coaching jobs remain open.
