A Mexican Navy sailing ship festooned with lights and a giant flag crashed into the landmark Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday night, shearing the top of its masts, killing two people and injuring 17 others,

Investigators are determined to figure out why the ship accelerated backwards, directly into the Brooklyn Bridge with 277 sailors and naval officers onboard.

Investigators say whatever went wrong happened within the span of five minutes, between the time the ship pulled away from a dock and hit the bridge.
