The offense was clicking on all cylinders as head coach Billy Napier made use of both Graham Mertz and DJ Lagway at the quarterback spot. The Gators were able to put up over 500 yards of total offense and scored 45 points as they beat the Bulldogs 45-28.

Florida’s ball security has generally been good under Napier. The Gators ranked in the top 25 in fewest turnovers in both of Napier’s first two seasons. His worst season (14 turnovers in 2022) matched the best by his predecessor, Dan Mullen. But only 14 teams have lost more turnovers this season than UF (six).

Florida coach Billy Napier was supposed to have answers. Or at least some new ideas. Napier was hired in Gainesville in 2021 partly because he had a detailed plan for the Gators to close the gap on Alabama and Georgia in the powerhouse Southeastern Conference and become a legit national championship contender after being mostly an afterthought over the previous decade.

Florida announced Napier’s hiring on the Sunday after the regular season ended, but he didn’t leave Louisiana immediately. He prepared as usual for the Ragin’ Cajuns’ upcoming Sun Belt Conference championship while spending his standard recruiting time working on the Gators’ roster/staff.

Florida seemed to be stronger and more put together in the way the team operated than we’ve seen so far this season as Graham Mertz shone. The veteran quarterback recorded his best performance of the season, completing 19 of his 21 passing attempts for 201 yards with 3 touchdowns. Overall, consistency was what won Florida the game.
