President Donald Trump on Saturday accused former FBI Director Christopher Wray of lying about FBI agents’ presence during the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, days after his administration brought charges against Wray’s predecessor,
The bare-bones indictment secured by that prosecutor, Trump loyalist Lindsey Halligan, is exceptionally weak, former prosecutors and legal experts say. Fundamental problems with the case itself — as well as the unusual events that preceded the indictment — will make it difficult to bring Comey to trial, let alone secure a conviction.
President Donald Trump insisted the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey was not about revenge, but he also said he hopes others face charges. “It’s not revenge, it’s about justice,” the president declared while departing the White House on Friday.
When asked outside the White House who the next person on his "list" is following the indictment of Comey, Trump said: “It’s not a list, but I think there’ll be others." He also characterized "others" as “corrupt radical left Democrats.”
Comey, in a video posted on Instagram, said: "My heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system, and I'm innocent. So, let's have a trial and keep the faith.
Donald Trump lost it at his old nemesis James Comey in an early morning Truth Social rant following the former FBI director’s indictment. “Whether you like Corrupt James Comey or not, and I can’t imagine too many people liking him, HE LIED! It is not a complex lie, it’s a very simple, but IMPORTANT one,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Trump accused James Comey of lying in a case overseen by a Biden-appointed judge, calling the former FBI director a “Dirty Cop.”
