Aug 24, 2019 · Greetings this is my first post here. I was directed here from a revolver forum to find some knowledgeable people. I recently had the opportunity to look through a for-sale collection from a relative of my in-laws. Among the militaria and sporting guns was a 1917 S&W military revolver. It was the service weapon of a member of the family.
Model 1917 Identification help - Smith And Wesson Forums
Mar 31, 2016 · Unless there are obvious signs of the recoil shield being shaved down, the only way to determine whether your revolver was originally made for 45 Colt would be to spend the $50 for a history letter from S&W. But I really think you have an altered .455 2nd model.

Jul 11, 2013 · I have a S&W M1917 45 Revolver and it was double and single action. I could pull the trigger with the hammer forward for the heavy double action or pull the hammer to the rear for a super light single action shot. I gave the gun to a guy to …
S&W M1917 Revolver vs. S&W Model 625 - Smith And Wesson …
Nov 8, 2017 · It has been said that a quality firearm should cost about the same as an oz. of gold, many new S&W revolvers are much less. And this re-engineering has been going on throughout the existence of S&W. The most accurate revolver I have ever shot is a model 28-3, a non pinned barrel and a non recessed cylinder model.

The Model 1917 Brazilian .45 Revolver - Smith And Wesson Forums
Dec 1, 2011 · The first shipment was new production with the top frame cut wide for the sights. After WWII, apparently S&W decided to use up a lot of spare parts left over from 1917 onward for the second shipment to Brazil in 1946. My revolver has a WW I frame stamped with the side profile of an eagles head and "S 2".
S&W M-1917 Revolver loads - Smith And Wesson Forums
Nov 6, 2011 · It is interesting that some recommend only jacketed for the 1917 S&W and Colt New Service in 45 A.C.P. I have a late model Colt N.S. that has the shallow rifling and find that I can get accuracy using 45 AR cases and soft cast 200 gr. SWC using Bullseye or A#5 loaded to approximate 750+/- FPS.

Dec 13, 2020 · Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! It's not a 1917. They look similar, but the 1917 is chambered for .45 ACP and is an entirely different gun. It is officially known as the .455 Hand Ejector, Mark II, British Service Revolver.
S&W M1917 N frame vs more modern N frame strength

Is there something specifically weak about the M1917? I have zero plans for shooting +P in a M1917 but the relative strength of the pistol is an interesting point for me to understand.
