It was the service weapon of a member of the family.

And this re-engineering has been going on throughout the existence of S&W. The most accurate revolver I have ever shot is a model 28-3, a non pinned barrel and a non recessed cylinder model.

Jan 9, 2020 · M1917 Army 45 cal. Revolver, ser#207974. I know u can use some 45 ACP ammo with moon clips n another type 45 ACP ammo w/o moon clips. Really don't want to use moon clips, but likewise I don't want to remove spent rounds with a pencil, so what ammo am I talking about? Semper Paratus.

Dec 1, 2011 · The first shipment was new production with the top frame cut wide for the sights. After WWII, apparently S&W decided to use up a lot of spare parts left over from 1917 onward for the second shipment to Brazil in 1946. My revolver has a WW I frame stamped with the side profile of an eagles head and "S 2".

Nov 6, 2011 · It is interesting that some recommend only jacketed for the 1917 S&W and Colt New Service in 45 A.C.P. I have a late model Colt N.S. that has the shallow rifling and find that I can get accuracy using 45 AR cases and soft cast 200 gr. SWC using Bullseye or A#5 loaded to approximate 750+/- FPS.

Dec 13, 2020 · Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! It's not a 1917. They look similar, but the 1917 is chambered for .45 ACP and is an entirely different gun. It is officially known as the .455 Hand Ejector, Mark II, British Service Revolver.

May 17, 2024 · Knowing that the M1917 has a hardened cylinder and is a N Frame gun why would +P be a problem compared to more modern N frames like a model 25 in 45ACP? Is there something specifically weak about the M1917? I have zero plans for shooting +P in a M1917 but the relative strength of the pistol is an interesting point for me to understand.

Feb 21, 2024 · New to me a S&W M1917.Serial number 171***.All correct markings except np US ARMY on the barrel or butt.Gun dates to March 1919.Just was wondering why no USARMY Markings.It does have a Brazilian Crest on the right side of the reciever.Any info is appreciated.
